Vidovdan Memorial Lecture at the St. Luke Serbian Orthodox Church in Potomac MD

This is the second year in which I was invited to give the Vidovdan Memorial Lecture at the St. Luke Serbian Orthodox Church in Potomac MD ( a suburb of Washington DC).
The lecture focused on the Battle of Kosovo (June 28, 1389) and the military campaigns in the region before and after the Kosovo battle which determined the fate of the Serbian nation. The military campaigns discussed included the Crusades, struggles with Eastern Roman Empire and of course the Ottoman Empire.
The audience was also very briefly introduced to the national epic poetry of the Serbs by which information about the Battle of Kosovo and its heros was passed generation to generation.
Finally I reminded the largely Serbian audience that given the size and makeup of Tzar Lazar’s allied army it was highly likely that many people in the room attending the lecture were descendants of those who fought at Kosovo in 1389. Slava im!
